Oliveira heads frantic final Moto3™ practice in the wet

Saturday, 28 April 2012

In very wet and cold conditions at the Jerez circuit, the Moto3™ contingent carried out their final free practice session of the day, which saw Estrella Galicia 0,0´s Miguel Oliveira top the timesheets before qualifying this afternoon.

With a time of 1.58´316 Oliveira was a second faster than second-placed Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie Arthur Sissis, who continues to impress in his debut season. Third spot went to his team mate Danny Kent, a mere two hundredths off.

RW Racing GP´s local rider Luis Salóm set the fourth fastest time of the morning onboard his Kalex KTM, ousting yesterday´s pace setter Romano Fenati into fifth. The Italian rider crashed his Team Italia FMI bike late on in the session, yet avoided any injury. Sixth place is occupied by Redox-Ongetta-Centro Seta´s Jakub Kornfeil, who has been solid all weekend.

JHK T-Shirt Laglisse´s Efren Vazquez beat Red Bull KTM Ajo´s Sandro Cortese to seventh spot before taking a tumble, while Bankia Aspar Team´s Hector Faubel recovered from his fall yesterday to record the ninth fastest time. Rounding out the top ten is AirAisa-Sic-Ajo rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin.

Title favorite Maverick Viñales spent much of the session in the pits, setting only the 11th fastest time of the day.

The final 15 minutes of the session saw a number of riders take a tumble in the harsh conditions, including Isaac Viñales onboard his Ongetta-Centro Seta, Ambrogio Next Racing´s Giulian Pedone, Technomag-CIP-TSR´s Alan Techer, his team mate Kenta Fujii, as well as Caretta Technology´s Jack Miller.
