Lorenzo dominates warm-up at Mugello

Sunday, 15 July 2012

Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo put in a dominant performance in the warm-up session for the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello to finish top in front of Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner.

Lorenzo, who has been the pace-setter all weekend, despite not qualifying on pole, set the fastest time of the morning with a 1.47’473, over four tenths ahead of Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso, who put in a strong performance in front of his home crowd. Repsol Honda Team’s Casey Stoner came in third, yet still looked displeased with his bike’s set-up.

His teammate and this afternoon’s pole-sitter Dani Pedrosa finished the morning fourth, just over half a second behind Lorenzo, with Ducati Team’s Nicky Hayden completing the top five. His teammate Valentino Rossi once again struggled on-board his Desmosedici, coming in tenth. There were no crashes during the session, yet Yamaha’s Ben Spies and Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró both took brief detours into the gravel.
