Pedrosa leads morning warm-up at sunny Assen

Saturday, 30 June 2012

In sunny conditions it was Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa who set the fastest time in the morning warm-up of the Iveco TT Assen in front of Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner.

In one of the most tightly fought sessions of the Assen round so far, in which the top six were separated by less than two tenths of a second, it was Pedrosa who left it until the final seconds to post the fastest time of 1.34’636. Yamaha Factory Racing’s championship leader Jorge Lorenzo was just over three hundredths behind, with Pedrosa’s teammate Stoner in tow. Stoner had been widely tipped to work on his bike’s set-up with the hard rear tyre, yet opted for the soft, adding speculation he may use it for the race later today.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Andrea Dovizioso looked to be back on the pace after a uncharacteristic qualifying yesterday, ousting his teammate Cal Crutchlow into fifth. The top six are completed by Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies. Top CRT performer in the morning session was Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró in 12th.
