Cortese sets fastest lap in Moto3 warm-up at Estoril

Sunday, 6 May 2012

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Sandro Cortese laid down the marker for today’s Moto3™ race, as he set the fastest time in morning warm-up of the Grande Prémio de Portugal Circuito Estoril.

The German rider set a fastest time of 1.47’648 in sunny conditions at the Estoril circuit, going just over one tenth quicker than Blusens Avintia title rival Maverick Viñales. RW Racing GP’s Luis Salom was a further tenth down in third.

Local rider Miguel Oliveira, who starts this afternoon’s race from third on the front row, went fourth fastest, while championship leader, Team Italia FMI’s Romano Fenati, was in ninth. The top 20 riders were separated by a mere 1.6s in the opening warm-up session, which should bode well for some neck and neck racing in the race later on.

Caretta Technology’s replacement rider Manuel Tatasciore crashed out of the session half way through, whilst JHK T-Shirt Laglisse’s Adrian Martín was thrown off his bike in a spectacular high-side.
