Arenas, Torres and Bonastre on pole position at the UEM European Championship

Saturday, 6 October 2012

The 98 riders present at this year’s round (next year’s has already been confirmed to take place on 6th October 2013) have pushed themselves and their motorbikes to the limit to get the best possible times in good track conditions.

The starting order on the grid has been decided in all three categories at today’s qualifying sessions for the UEM European Championship 2012, which is taking place at Albacete Circuit.

Albert Arenas achieved pole in the Moto3™/125GP after beating British rider Fraser Rogers and Spaniard Juanfran Guevara. Despite what was initially expected, it was the second qualifying session that decided the grid positions, because most of the riders achieved considerably faster times compared to the morning session.

Jordi Torres dominated the Supersport 600 with a firm hand straight away, being just during the first laps of the first qualifying session outside the top 5. From then on, he asserted his authority over the rest of his rivals, including Slovakian Jaroslav Cerny, who was more than nine tenths of a second behind him. Oscar Climent was in third place, meaning that he will start on the front row of the grid.

Winner of both CEV Buckler rounds in Albacete this season, Adrián Bonastre was fastest in the Superstock 1000 category. Less than four tenths of a second behind him was Carmelo Morales who, together with Xavi Forés, completes the front row.

Energy TV will show all the races live in Spain, or you can watch online at mitele.es. Sport TV will cover the races in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique. In Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia, races will be shown on DigiSport. British Eurosport, Nelonen Finlandia and Rai Sport will also be showing coverage of the UEM European Championship.
