Khairuddin sets sights on podium for second part of season

Thursday, 9 August 2012

Malaysian Moto3™ rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin has set himself fresh targets for the second half of the season, with a podium at his home round in Malaysia being one of them.

The young AirAsia-SIC-Ajo rider commented: “I definitely aim to do well in Sepang. The Malaysian GP will undoubtedly be my top priority this season. I aim to make Malaysia proud and will give my very best for the local fans that have been very supportive throughout my career.”

Khairuddin has been in impressive form this season, having already put in some record breaking performances to place himself as the most successful Malaysian rider in history. This came through his fourth place at the Estoril GP, where he only narrowly missed out on his first podium behind RW Racing GP’s Luis Salom. He followed this up with a second place on the grid for the Catalunya GP, and has scored seven top-ten finishes in the first half of the season.

After nine rounds Khairuddin is sixth in the world championship with 66 points, just nine points behind fifth placed Alexis Masbou of the Caretta Technology team, who has 75 points with eight more races to go. And the Malaysian is adamant there is more to come: “Podium is definitely a realistic target and I still have eight more races to achieve it.”
