Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Márquez took some time out of his pre-season preparation to try his race craft on the ice, as he contested the GSeries in Andorra for the first time ever.
Márquez, who had never competed in such an event before, took to the track in a race-prepped Mk1 VW Golf GTI kitted out with spiked tyres, as he competed against other ‘rookie’ drivers in the series. Despite his relaxed appearance he was in full race-mode from the off, as he incredibly managed to qualify second for the eight lap race.
A mistake at the start, similar to his antics in Japan last year, made it difficult for the Spaniard to fight for victory, although he did put on a show for the crowd as he attempted to pass as many cars as possible. But as he pointed out after the race, doing so on ice in a car is not quite the same as doing it on a bike on tarmac.
Márquez told motogp.com that he is well into his physical preparation for the season ahead, and is looking forward to getting out on track again when the first of the MotoGP tests kicks off in Sepang early in February.
