In less than 24 hours it will be time again for the MotoGP™ grid to start their engines for the first time in 2013 as the first official three-day test gets underway in Sepang at 10am local time on Tuesday, albeit with a forecast of rain.
With Valentino Rossi back on the Yamaha, Marc Márquez jumping on the Repsol Honda, and Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa finishing the season neck-and-neck, lap times will be relevant from the start. And with Ducati promising a new approach, and CRTs expected to up their game further, this pre-season is not one to miss. The track is already in use as the CRTs of Came IodaRacing Project, NGM Mobile Forward Racing and Avintia Blusens are undergoing their ECU shakedown test to give them a head start once the others join tomorrow. And with expected teething problems having hit them from the off, this time will no doubt have proven valuable ahead of tomorrow.
The forecast rain could prove problematic for all teams, with real performance gains from upgrades often hard to tell if no dry time is had on the circuit and the bikes aren’t ridden to the limit. Nonetheless, the teams will be hoping to avoid either mixed dry and wet conditions, as well as the tropical downpour that stopped the MotoGP™ race last season.
