Viñales continues momentum in Valencia

Viñales continues momentum in Valencia

On the second day of Moto3™ testing it was once again JHK T-Shirt Laglisse’s Maverick Viñales who set the pace ahead of his compatriots, Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins and Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Luis Salom.

A time of 1.40’168 on his factory spec KTM bike set in the final session of the day could not be matched by Rins, who was however only 0.24s off. Salom, who will certainly be looking to get the better of Viñales this year, was a only fractionally slower in third, with San Carlo Team Italia’s Romano Fenati the fastest FTR Honda in fourth.

This proved quite a feat as he is surrounded by the very strong looking KTMs, as Red Bull’s Zulfahmi Khairuddin and Estrella’s Alex Márquez ended the day fifth and sixth respectively, with Mapfre Aspar Team’s Jonas Folger in seventh on his Kalex KTM. This was the first day that the German got to try his 2013 bike, declaring himself happy with it, particularly as it has more option for adjustability.

Redox RW Racing GP’s Jakub Kornfeil continued to look strong in eighth, ahead of Ambrogio Racing’s Brad Binder and Mahindra Racing’s Miguel Oliveira. Ambrogio’s Danny Webb suffered a crash, but managed to walk away unscathed. Whilst the session started in sunshine with good weather, the wind picked up more during the day, making it tougher for the lighter machines. Nonetheless, the majority of times were set in the afternoon.

JHK’s new girl Ana Carrasco continued her adaptation to life in Moto3 in 24th place, whilst Marc VDS Racing Team’s Livio Loi was the fastest rookie of the day in 20th.
