Baldassarri shines at rain-hit Jerez

At a rain-hit Jerez on the first day of the Moto3™ test, GO&FUN Gresini Moto3’s rookie Lorenzo Baldassari put in a great show this morning to top the first session ahead of Mahindra Racing’s Miguel Oliveira.

With a time of 2.01’467 he was over half a second ahead of Oliveira, who had another rookie in tow in the shape of Marc VDS Racing Team’s Livio Loi. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Zulfahmi Khairuddin went fourth quickest, ahead of San Carlo Team Italia’s Romano Fenati and Caretta Technology-RTG’s Jack Miller.

Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3’s Jonas Folger set the seventh quickest time, although he only did nine laps in the wet conditions. Team La Fonte Tascaracing’s Alessandro Tonucci, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Arthur Sissis and his teammate Luis Salom completed the top ten.

With only 19 riders heading out in the morning, and many only completing a handful of laps, true performance is tough to gauge at this point. The Moto3™ riders, who shared the track with Moto2™ this morning, will have their own track time this afternoon, which should give a better indication.
