Viñales back on top as Jerez stays dry for day two

JHK T-Shirt Laglisse’s Maverick Viñales was back on course at the second day of Moto3™ testing in Jerez as he set the quickest time on a dry day ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins and Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Luis Salom.

In a KTM dominated top-three it was Viñales who set the quickest time of 1.46’805 once the morning fog had cleared, with Rins a mere 0.006 seconds behind, setting up what should be an exciting final day tomorrow. Salom was a further three tenths back and will be hoping to catch up to his compatriots on the final day.

Mahindra Racing has reason to be happy with Miguel Oliveira putting the new machine in fifth by the end of the day, having done 49 laps, just slightly behind the Kalex KTM of Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3’s Jonas Folger.  CIP’s Juanfran Guevara was the fastest rookie of the day in sixth, having led briefly at the halfway point, with Ambrogio Racing’s Brad Binder the quickest Suter Honda on the grid as he went seventh fastest, with Mahindra’s Efrén Vázquez in tow.

Binder’s teammate Danny Webb, who had been the fastest man in the wet yesterday, put in the ninth quickest time, ahead of Redox RW Racing GP’s Jakub Kornfeil in tenth. Red Bull’s Arthur Sissis had an unlucky day as his engine broke after 23 laps, while riders Webb, San Carlo Team Italia’s Francesco Bagnaia, GO&FUN Gresini Moto3’s Lorenzo Baldassarri, Kiefer Racing’s Toni Finsterbusch, Team La Fonte Tascaracing’s Hyuga Watanabe and Avant Techno Niklas Ajo’s all suffered crashes.
