Rins quickest as Jerez conditions fail to improve

Alex Rins led the way at the halfway point of this week’s final day of Moto3™ testing in Jerez. The Spaniard topped the timesheets from Estrella Galicia 0,0 teammate Alex Márquez, with Jack Miller completing the top three for Caretta Technology-RTG.

Fog and showers descended on the Andalucian venue which prevented any meaningful running for much of the morning. The rainfall subsided further into the session, although the track remained wet off-line.

Rins’ leading effort came in the form of 1:58.495, just under seven tenths of a second off Márquez as Miguel Oliveira and Livio Loi rounded out the top five for Mahindra Racing and Marc VDS Racing Team, respectively.

The second Mahindra bike of Efrén Vázquez was sixth, as he and San Carlo Team Italia’s Romano Fenati sandwiched Red Bull KTM Ajo duo Arthur Sissis and Zulfahmi Zhairuddin in the classification. The top ten was completed by Caretta Technology-RTG’s John McPhee, who was the last runner within two seconds of the leading time.

Moto3™ teams will now be given individual track time, having shared the circuit with their Moto2™ counterpart for the morning period.
