Espargaró leads the way for CRT field

Espargaró leads the way for CRT field

Once again, it was Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaró who set the pace in the CRT class as MotoGP™ testing resumed at Sepang on Tuesday. The reigning champion posted a best lap time of 2’03,941, just 2.3 seconds off Dani Pedrosa’s top time for Repsol Honda Team.

“There has been a lot of rain in the days leading up to this test and yesterday there were a lot of cars on the track, so I guess that's why the surface was so slippery today,” the Catalan rider explained.

“You can see from the lap times that the conditions were not optimum but we focused our work today on comparing this year's bike with last year's. Unfortunately, we didn't get through our full schedule because of the rain.”

Randy de Puniet ended the latest eight hours of pre-season running in 18th place, well over a second slower than his teammate as different setups were run.

“We did a couple of runs on the base setting we found at the last test and tried to iron out the front end chatter we had encountered,” the Frenchman began. “We had two different settings to try but it was difficult to draw any real conclusions because of the state of the track surface. We stopped for a little break halfway through the session and that's when it started raining, so we couldn't carry on.”

The whole MotoGP™ field hopes for better conditions on Wednesday, as track activity again gets underway from 10am local time (3am CET).
