Rain stops Bautista running new forks

Álvaro Bautista had hoped to run new front forks from Öhlins when MotoGP™ testing continued at Sepang on Tuesday. The GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider, who ended the day seventh fastest, was forced to place that particular plan on hold because of the Malaysian weather.

On the timesheets, Bautista finished the afternoon with 32 laps and a best time of 2’02.362 to his name, although the agenda had been disrupted.

“Today was like many days here: it’s dry in the morning, so you can work, and then storms come in the afternoon,” the Toledo-born rider said in a video interview with motogp.com. “Last time we were here I was struggling a lot with the feeling of the front and turning the bike. We improved today, but the track wasn’t like it had been for the previous testing here.

“Some of the parts we used worked well and others not quite as well as we expected. We wanted to test some front forks but we couldn’t because of the weather, so we’ll do that tomorrow.”

For teammate Bryan Staring, who is running a CRT bike, the Australian was pleased with the fact that a recent motocross accident is not hindering his on-track performances.

“It’s nothing too major,” he confirmed. “I had, not even an accident, but I made a mistake on the motocross bike and damaged my ankle a little bit. It’s really no problem; in fact it’s much more difficult to walk than it is to ride a motorbike, so it’s not a worry.”

Bautista now hopes his revised plan will be carried out as hoped, but more showers threaten to cause further on-track disruption on Wednesday.
