Bautista hails "constant improvements" in Malaysia

Now keen to test at a different circuit after much pre-season running at Sepang, Álvaro Bautista has been highly encouraged by GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s continuous progressions. The Spaniard placed as high as fourth on Thursday and ends the week sixth overall, less than eight tenths of a second off the leading pace.

Bautista is threatening to become a solid top six finisher for Gresini this season, having this week managed a personal quickest lap of 2’01.078.

"Well I think the balance is good for us because we’ve made constant improvements from the first to the last day," he explained in a video interview with "I can feel a particular improvement with the front of the bike, more feeling. This morning we put everything on the bike that we’d tested over the first two days and managed a really good rhythm with it all. I think we’ve done a good job here and improved our base settings, so I’m so confident that we can make another step at the next test."

In spite of his wide-ranging advancements, the 28-year-old did suffer an unusual issue on Thursday.

"I don’t know why, but my right foot started to get very hot so I had to come back into the pits; I couldn’t stay out there with those temperatures!" he laughed. "We started well on the long run and then, after eight or nine laps, the bike started to slide a lot; so we need to improve that, but it’s been very positive because we’ve got a lot of data from the long run."

First riding for Gresini last season, Bautista claimed a pair of rostrum results – one of which was in emotional circumstances at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
