Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 presents contender in Barcelona

The striking W Barcelona hotel was the venue as Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 presented its Moto3™ programme on Thursday. For 2013, Álex Rins is joined by Álex Márquez.

Aboard a new KTM, Rins is looking to improve on the career-first pole position and podium finish he achieved at Jerez and Le Mans last year. Márquez, younger brother of MotoGP™ rookie Marc, starts his first full Moto3 campaign as the maiden CEV Moto3 Champion.

“The principle is to improve on our results from last year - both in qualifying and the races - and then you start improving bit-by-bit, getting better and closer to the front which in-turn allows you to go for victories,” Rins told in a video interview. When asked whether regular race wins will be possible, the Barcelona rider replied:

“The way I see it is: why not? This KTM is better than the one we had last year and so far this pre-season I have finished second in both Jerez and Valencia. At the same time, this class is very competitive and has a lot of quick riders. We’re certainly not forgetting people like (Jonas) Folger, (Romano) Fenati, (Luis) Salom and Maverick (Viñales); those are some of the guys who really fought it out last year and are likely to be just as strong this season.”

Yet to learn just under half of the circuits on the calendar, Márquez is keen to adapt quickly. At the final pre-season test in Jerez later this month, he hopes to move closer to the forefront of the field.

“At the last test in Jerez we had a few problems and were a bit far off,” the 16-year-old admits. “What I want now is to have a better feeling with the bike, to be more comfortable and move closer to the guys at the front.”

With his brother having sealed last year’s Moto2™ crown in convincing fashion before jumping up to the top class alongside Dani Pedrosa at Repsol Honda Team, the younger Márquez is aware of the added media attention.

“Well, yes, there is a bit more pressure because I’m sharing the surname - so people think more of you!” he laughed. “I’ll just try to steer away from that and concentrate on my own season.”

The Moto3™ field will kick-off the 2013 season, becoming the first class to race this year, under lights in Qatar on 7 April.
