Bautista ends Sunday early after crash

Álvaro Bautista remained on the sidelines for the final hour of Jerez testing on Sunday, having suffered an injury following a crash at Turn 5.

The GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider tumbled at the Sito Pons corner at approximately 3:45pm, resulting in a precautionary trip to the circuit Medical Centre. Complaining of pain in his left hand, the Spaniard was taken to the Clinica Mobile for x-rays and it was discovered that he has picked up small fractures in the fourth and fifth fingers.

“We didn't need the crash because we were having a good day and getting a lot of work done together with Showa,” Bautista explained. “The latest updates were working well but we didn't get to finish the programme we had planned. It's a shame, but the only consolation is that we would have had to stop shortly afterwards anyway because of the rain.

“Unfortunately I ended up with fractures to two of my fingers and a knee strain which has put the final day of the test in doubt. We will let the Clinica Mobile doctors assess my condition in the morning and take it from there.”

Bautista is keen to be given the all-clear on Monday morning, on what will be the last day of 2013 Pre-Season testing for the MotoGP™ field.
