Moto2™ 2013: Facts of the Year

Numerous departures and arrivals ensure that there is still plenty of movement in Moto2™ this year, even if Marc Márquez is no longer racing in the class.

Ten riders, who were present on last year’s Moto2 grid, are no longer present: Marc Máruqez, Elene Rosell, Gino Rea, Bradley Smith, Andrea Iannone, Marco Colendrea, Claudio Corti, Roberto Rolfo, Max Neukirchner and Eric Granado. Four of those have made the climb to MotoGP™, whereas Granado has stepped back into Moto3™.

Making up for ten ‘goodbyes’, we have the same number in new faces. The most significant of which is arguably reigning Moto3 Champion Sandro Cortese, joining the fray with Doni Tata Pradita, Kyle Smith, Alberto Moncayo, Marcel Schrotter, Steven Odendall, Danny Kent, Mattia Pasini, Louis Rosis and Rafid Topan Sucipto.

Perhaps the most impressive Fact of the Year is the number of Moto2 competitors to have already won a Grand Prix in any class of the World Championship: this amounts to 17 riders and a total of 106 race wins between them.

Funnily enough, the youngest and oldest riders in the Moto2™ field can be found in the same squad, as 18-year-old Sucipto and 30-year-old Anthony West are sharing the garage for QMMF Racing Team.
