Moto3™ 2013: Facts of the Year

Moto3™ 2013: Facts of the Year

There is very much a fresh feeling about Moto3™ this year, not least as an infest of young riders is streaming its way into the World Championship.

With 15 nationalities battling it out for the top spot, the 2013 Moto3 year promises to be full of intrigue and excitement. An assortment of new faces will be dicing it out on the track: Matteo Ferrari, Francesco Bagnaia, Livio Loi, Álex Márquez, John McPhee, Ana Carrasco, Hyuga Watanabe, Eric Granado, Juan Guevara, Philipp Öttl, Florian Alt and Lorenzo Baldassari – all proven talents in their own right and all capable of putting forward a healthy challenge.

The youngest class still has its favourites, however. Maverick Viñales and Luis Salom are a pair of Spanish hotshots, looking to take the vacant crown as Sandro Cortese has now progressed to Moto2™. Also off the junior grid are Adrian Martin, Danny Kent, Kenta Fuji, Louis Rossi, Giulian Pedone, Alberto Moncayo, Luigi Morciano, Héctor Faubel and Marcel Schrotter.

Staggeringly, only four of the Moto3™ riders are older than 21 years of age: Danny Webb (22), Jasper Iwema (23), Alexis Masbou (25) and Efrén Vázquez (26). The youngest is Livio Loi, who will not hit the minimum participation age of 16 until 27th April and therefore will not race until Round 3 at Jerez.
