Crutchlow leads pre-race Warm-Up in Qatar

Cal Crutchlow, starting second on the grid at the Losail International Circuit, has topped the pre-race Warm-Up session. The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider led the way from fellow front row starters Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.

With just 20 minutes on offer, the riders hoped to configure race setups as well as possible while Crutchlow led the way with a best lap of 1’56.273.

Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo was just over a tenth of a second slower, but suffered the unusual problem of requiring a new visor when his original became half detached from his helmet. In third place, Repsol Honda Team’s Pedrosa was just one thousandth of a second slower than his fellow Spaniard.

The top six was completed by the second factory bikes of Yamaha and Honda, as Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez sandwiched the LCR Honda MotoGP of Stefan Bradl. Andrea Dovizioso – starting tonight’s race from fourth on his Ducati debut – was seventh in this session, but looked to pick up an issue as smoke could be seen exiting his exhaust. The top ten was rounded out by GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista, Ducati’s Nicky Hayden and Tech 3’s Bradley Smith.

Although he will start the race from 22nd following electrical problems yesterday, Avintia Blusens’ Héctor Barberá (13th place) was the leading CRT runner in this session.

Taking place after the Moto3™ and Moto2™ races, the MotoGP™ Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar begins at 10pm local time (GMT +3).
