Viñales bears pain in finger

Maverick Viñales was presented with a challenging start to the 2013 Moto3™ season, having to ride at Losail with an injured finger following a crash in testing.

The Team Calvo rider lost a finger tip after an accident at Jerez and there was initially some doubt that the Spaniard would be able to compete in Qatar.

"Really good," Viñales, a general pre-season title favourite, said at Losail. "I think that we went really fast in the race and the pace was really good. The pain in the finger was too much in the first part of the race, but went away more over some laps. I’m happy, I think we’re in a good place and I’m ready to go in the next race.

"I’m working with the finger to be able to improve it for Austin. I expect the best! I think, the more laps we do, the more confident we will be with the bike and, for sure, the better our setup will be."

In a tightly-fought opening event of the year, Viñales finished second as he beat Estella Galicia 0,0’s Álex Rins in a photo finish.
