Dovizioso acknowledges start will be critical

The uphill first corner at Circuit of the Americas is expected by many to cause issues on Sunday, as the MotoGP™ pack filters into Turn 1 for the first time.

Starting sixth on the grid, retaining his 100% record for being no lower than on the second row since joining Ducati Team at the start of the 2013 campaign, Andrea Dovizioso stresses that making it through cleanly will be a challenge in itself.

“To be on the second row at a new track, considering we didn’t come here for the test (in March), is really good,” the Italian told in a video interview. “I have to compare my lap time with the other Ducati riders, so I’m really happy with it.

“We know the race will be hard because the track is quite difficult, so we have to use up a lot of energy and that won’t make things easy – and even less so for us.

“Anyway, the second row is good and it’s going to be so important to have a good start. We can fight because not many riders have really good pace. Anything can happen in the race and we’ll see which positions we can fight for.”

Teammate Nicky Hayden will start tenth in his home nation.
