Terol quickest in Sunday warm-up session

Nico Terol registered the quickest lap time as the Sunday morning warm-up session was staged in Austin, Texas. The Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2 rider headed Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding (this afternoon’s pole-sitter) and Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami. Championship leader Pol Espargaro was fourth.

Posting a quickest run of 2’11.777, Terol was only six hundredths of a second up on Redding as Nakagami edged out Tuenti HP 40’s Espargaro by a further two tenths; the latter hopes for improvements in this afternoon’s race, as he is tasked with defending his championship lead from only seventh on the grid.

In the warm-up Espargaro’s teammate Esteve Rabat completed the top five from Aspar’s Jordi Torres, Technomag carXpert’s Dominique Aegerter and Italtrans’ Julian Simon. Simoni Corti managed ninth for NGM Mobile Racing, ahead of Mike di Meglio who placed inside the top ten for JiR Moto2. The Frenchman now hopes for a less action-packed Grand Prix than that of Qatar two weeks ago.

The inaugural Moto2™ Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas – taking place on the outskirts of Austin – will get underway at 12:20pm local time (GMT -5).
