Bradl: "We can be happy today"

At the start of the weekend for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, Stefan Bradl had fancied his chances for a career-first podium finish in MotoGP™. Despite finishing fifth on Sunday, the German remains upbeat.

Bradl ran as high as second on the opening lap, but was soon overhauled by eventual winner Marc Marquez as well as the charging Jorge Lorenzo and Cal Crutchlow.

“We can be happy today because we have done a good job,” reported Bradl, the sole rider for LCR Honda MotoGP. “I made a very good start but was not so aggressive as some other riders at the beginning because, on full fuel, I could feel some sliding on the front so I decided to remain calm and focused.

“With 13 laps to go Crutchlow passed me, as he was quite fast in the middle of the race - especially on the entry of the corners. We could not match his performance on the entry to the curves but we had good speed on the exit. I think we have done our best and P5 is the result we were expecting here at COTA.”

The result brought Bradl’s first 11 points of the campaign, as the German had crashed out of the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix through an unforced error.
