Further medical checks for Spies on Monday

Ignite Pramac Racing had issued an update on Ben Spies’ condition, with the American sitting out of this weekend’s Gran Premio bwin de España.

Spies has been injured since the crash that damaged his right shoulder when riding for Yamaha Factory Racing in last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix.

Although this was seemingly improving when he arrived in Austin two weeks ago, the Texan began to suffer severe chest pain which ruled him out of racing at Jerez.

The latest update from Ignite Pramac Racing reads as follows:

Ben Spies will undergo further medical checks on his physical condition following the problem with a pectoral muscle he suffered during the warm-up session at the Austin GP.

Only after these checks and subsequent diagnosis have been carried out will it be possible to have a clearer indication regarding the Texan rider’s imminent return to the championship.

The Ignite Pramac Racing Team rider is now spending five days a week doing three or more hours in rehab and an additional two hours of cardio work. His pectoral muscle is still less than perfect, but it is already possible to see some improvement in rotation and movement.’

No rider is replacing Spies in Jerez this weekend, meaning 2013 MotoGP™ newcomer Andrea Iannone is the sole rider operating out of the Pramac Racing garage.
