Barbera makes the top ten at Jerez

Hector Barbera was delighted with his and Avintia Blusens’ performance in qualifying for his home Gran Premio bwin de España.

Not only did he head directly into Q2 qualifying thanks to his top ten effort of practice, but the only CRT rider present in the pole position shootout went on to out-qualify two other riders - although it must be noted that Energy T.I. Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone was carrying a leg injury following a crash in final practice.

“The truth is that we have done a great job all weekend and this is the result,” Barbera, who had been left frustrated in both Qatar and Texas by various problems, was pleased to report to on Saturday. “The team has worked very well and I was able to feel very comfortable with the bike.

“Although the race is tomorrow, to get a result like this is reasuring and boosts the morale of the whole team. Tomorrow will not be easy because the race will be very hard, but we will prepare and try to be as competitive as possible.

“It will be difficult to win (out of the CRT runners) because Aleix (Espargaro, Power Electronics Aspar) is fast and consistent but, if we are just able to refine some details that currently remain a bit sketchy, we should be able to give him a lot of trouble.”

Keeping up with the apparent theme of the day, Barbera suffered a small crash at the end of qualifying, but his FTR bike was soon recovered from the Jerez gravel.
