Bautista sixth but yet to be fully pleased

Alvaro Bautista will line up sixth at the start of Sunday’s Gran Premio bwin de España, marking his best grid position of the season so far. However the GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider is looking to make improvements before the 27-lap race.

Eighth on the grid in Qatar and seventh in Texas, Bautista’s continuous improvement resumed in Spain on Saturday. In the pre-race Warm-Up session on Sunday, he will be looking to make several setup changes in order to enjoy improved handling.

"For sure, I’m happy with the second row, but I’m not completely happy because we still have the problem we had yesterday," he began. "We tried different solutions this morning and made some steps forward, but it’s still not 100%.

"In qualifying I wasn’t able to push so hard. I felt problems with the second rear tyre; I think the conditions were too hot for the front, so the rear was maybe pushing the front too much. I nearly crashed sometimes, like other riders were doing, but generally I’m happy with the position.

"We have another chance to try some solutions in the Warm-Up tomorrow."

On Gresini’s CRT-specification machine, Australian teammate Bryan Staring qualified in 18th place ahead of his third Grand Prix appearance.
