Remembering Nobuyuki Wakai

20 years after 250 rider Nobuyuki Wakai suffered a fatal accident during Free Practice at the 1993 Spanish Grand Prix, the MotoGP™ community is paying tribute to the late Japanese rider this weekend at Jerez.

For the 20th anniversary of Wakai's passing in a pit lane accident, a special tribute has been erected at the Circuito de Jerez in the form of a flamingo sculpture - a design Wakai used to sport on the back of his helmet.

With the sculpture having been unveiled on Thursday in the company of late Wakai's mother and sister, riders competing in the World Championship are paying tribute to him throughout the weekend with pink flamingo stickers on their bikes.
