Rins moves ahead in final practice session

Rins moves ahead in final practice session

Having won for the first time in Texas two weeks ago, Alex Rins has upped the Jerez pace to top the third and final Moto3™ practice session for the Gran Premio bwin de España. This means three different riders from as many teams have led the way across the three practice sessions this weekend.

The varied results so far in Jerez promise an unpredictable Qualifying session later this afternoon, with the pace from yesterday having now improved by some seven tenths of a second. Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Rins was also the only runner to push through the 1’47.000 barrier courtesy of his best effort of 1’46.938.

As a flurry of quick lap times came from various names in the final five minutes, Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3’s Jonas Folger was demoted to second place but had led for many of the 40 minutes.

Caretta Technology – RTG enjoyed a strong morning, as Jack Miller and John McPhee went third and sixth to sandwich Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Luis Salom and Avant Tecno’s Niklas Ajo. It was a particularly impressive showing from Scotsman McPhee, who this weekend is competing at Jerez on Grand Prix machinery for the very first time.

The top ten was completed by Ambrogio Racing’s brad Binder, Ajo’s Zulfahmi Khairuddin, GO&FUN Gresini Moto3’s Niccolo Antonelli and Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Marquez as the sun continued to shine and warm up Andalucia.

There was a minor incident at the end of the session, as Team Calvo’s Ana Carrasco and RW Racing GP’s Jasper Iwema got too close for comfort which resulted in a trip across the gravel for the Dutchman, who was able to stop before the air fence. He returns to racing this weekend following a large accident last time out in Austin.

The 40-minute Qualifying session for the Moto3™ Gran Premio bwin de España commences at 12:35pm local time (GMT +2)
