Rabat even quicker in Warm-Up session

Fresh from clinching a career-first pole position in Jerez on Saturday, Esteve Rabat went ever faster as he topped the Sunday morning Warm-Up session. He led Tuenti HP 40 teammate Pol Espargaro and championship leader Scott Redding.

Improving on his pole time by just over one tenth of a second, Rabat posted 1’43.141 this morning amid cooler but more ideal track conditions in the south of Spain. That edged out Espargaro by just 42 thousandths of a second, which is encouraging for the latter who will start the race from fourth on the grid.

Marc VDS Racing Team’s Redding will be second on the grid for the start, but is fully aware of the attack Espargaro is likely to put on from behind; this morning, the Englishman was less than one and a half tenths of the leading pace. Desguaces La Torre Maptaq’s Xavier Simeon and Came Iodaracing Project’s Johann Zarco completed the top five from Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami.

It was an incident-free 20 minutes, which had not been the case in the preceding Moto3™ session which had been the first to take place after rain on Saturday night.

The Moto2™ Gran Premio bwin de España starts at 12:20pm local time (GMT +2) and will be decided over the course of 26 laps.
