Elias leads French Warm-Up session

Elias leads French Warm-Up session

2010 Moto2™ World Champion Toni Elias has topped Sunday’s Warm-Up session ahead of the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France. On a moist track, he led NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Ricky Cardus and Came Iodaracing Project’s Johann Zarco as the returning Gino Rea went fourth quickest on his privately-entered bike.

Overnight rain guaranteed tricky conditions for the whole field, which could be seen struggling for grip around the 4.185 kilometres of the Le Mans Bugatti Grand Prix circuit. Elias topped the timesheets with his best effort of 1’50.186 but this was nearly 13 seconds slower than Takaaki Nakagami’s pole position time.

Rea’s confidence was greatly boosted by fourth place with his Gino Rea Race Team FTR bike and the Englishman has already said he aims for the podium should it rain during the race. Alex de Angelis was fifth for NGM Mobile Forward Racing as Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Nico Terol, Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Tom Luthi, Italtrans Racing Team’s Julian Simon and Blusens Avintia’s Kyle Smith filled slots six to nine.

Usual front-runners occupied the tenth to 13th places in the form of Marc VDS Racing Team duo Mika Kallio and Scott Redding, Tuenti HP 40’s Pol Espargaro and pole man Nakagami of Italtrans Racing Team. Espargaro’s teammate and championship leader Esteve Rabat was the penultimate rider on the timesheet with 33rd position. Mattia Pasini (NGM Mobile Racing) was the only faller, heading into the gravel trap at Garage Vert.

The Moto2™ Monster Energy Grand Prix de France starts at 12:20pm local time (GMT +2).
