Lorenzo ahead in Le Mans Warm-Up

Jorge Lorenzo has led the morning Warm-Up session ahead of the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, setting the pace on a damp Le Mans track from Cal Crutchlow and this afternoon’s pole-sitter Marc Marquez.

With lap times over 11 seconds slower than the best of Saturday thanks to overnight rain which left for a noticeably slippery surface, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo eventually moved went after a selection of different names had moved around the timesheets. His best effort of 1’44.307 left him with a buffer of four tenths of a second, with third-placed Marquez within a tenth of Crutchlow who rode to second after being given the green light to race but is suffering from a broken shin bone.

Ducati Team riders Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso (a front row starter) sandwiched LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl into fifth position as Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro headed up CRT honours from seventh. Eighth was Jerez winner and Marquez’s Repsol Honda Team partner Dani Pedrosa (who qualified sixth after crashing in qualifying) from Lorenzo’s Yamaha Factory Racing teammate Valentino Rossi, whose session featured an entertaining dice with Bradley Smith, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 teammate to Crutchlow. The top ten was rounded out by a second CRT rider in the form of Colombian Yonny Hernandez for PBM.

The 2013 Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, Round 4 of the 2013 MotoGP™ World Championship at historic Le Mans, begins at 2pm local time (GMT +2).
