First Moto2™ points for Sandro Cortese

First Moto2™ points for Sandro Cortese

Sandro Cortese finished the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, his fourth Moto2 race, in 13th position to secure his first three championship points.

The Dynavolt Intact GP rider had a cautious start from 17th on the grid as the track conditions were far from ideal. Although the racing line was mostly dry after overnight rain, there were some wet patches which caught out a number of riders.

Cortese dropped down to 25th on the first lap but eventually fought his way back to battle for 13th with Marcel Schrötter, Simone Corsi and Steven Odendaal and finally bring home his first three championship points.

By scoring his first points in France, the 2012 Moto3™ World Champion closely follows the footstep of his predecessor, 2011 125 World Champion Nico Terol who debuted in Moto2™ last year and only scored his first points in France as well, also finishing 13th from 17th on the grid.

Sandro Cortese:"At first I didn't want to take too much risks because the conditions were very difficult. The track was partly wet and partly dry. But then I was able to improve continually and could make up positions. I am very happy with the race. I was able to fight for a top 15 ranking and got my first points. With my injured thumb, I had no problems at all. A big thank you to my team who had a lot of work after my crash yesterday. I learned a lot in the race and now I am looking forward to Mugello."
