Viñales tops final practice at Mugello

Maverick Viñales led on Saturday morning to make it three different fastest riders from as many Moto3™ practice sessions in Italy this weekend. The Team Calvo rider set the pace from the two men to have topped sessions on Friday, as Luis Salom and Jonas Folger finished second and third for Red Bull KTM Ajo and Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3, respectively.

Although some had expected rain at the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM gathering, the track remained dry on Saturday morning despite a somewhat overcast sky. Viñales topped the timesheets with a lap time of 1’58.328, which was a comfortable four tenths of a second up on Salom and eight tenths quicker than Folger. Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira completed the top five as the leading Estrella Galicia 0,0 and Mahindra Racing riders, with Jack Miller sixth for Caretta Technology – RTG.

The rest of the top ten consisted of Niccolo Antonelli (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3), Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Arthur Sissis (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Alan Techer (CIP Moto3). Italian Wildcard rider Andrea Locatelli of Mahindra was the only faller of the session, whereas teammate Efren Vazquez did not leave the pits.

Qualifying for the 2013 Moto3™ Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello will begin at 12:35pm local time (GMT +2). Salom, Rins and Viñales have all celebrated pole positions so far this weekend, with the second of those riders having done so twice.
