Redding even quicker on Sunday morning

Britain’s Scott Redding, already on pole position for the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM, upped his session-topping speed by leading the pre-race Warm-Up session on Sunday morning. The Marc VDS Racing Team rider was followed by a trio of Spaniards in the form of Pol Espargaro, Nico Terol and Esteve Rabat.

There was no rain at the scenic Mugello circuit, but an overcast sky as Redding posted a best morning effort of 1’52.721 – two tenths of a second quicker than his pole position time. This left Espargaro three tenths of a second adrift, as he and Tuenti HP 40 teammate Rabat sandwiched Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Terol into the final top three position. Marcel Schrotter was fifth for Desguaces La Torre SAG and will be starting from a career-first front row slot later today.

The rest of the top ten was made up of Came Iodaracing Project’s Johann Zarco, Desguaces La Torre Maptaq’s Xavier Simeon, Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami (starting second later today), NGM Mobile Racing’s Simone Corsi and Redding’s teammate Mika Kallio, ensuring Marc VDS bookended the top ten.

The Moto2™ Gran Premio d’Italia TIM starts at 12:20pm local time (GMT +2).
