Viñales tops Warm-Up in Italy

Viñales tops Warm-Up in Italy

Moto3™ championship leader Maverick Viñales topped the timesheets in the pre-race Warm-Up session at Mugello. The Team Calvo rider led this afternoon’s pole-sitter Jonas Folger of Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3 and Mahindra Racing’s Miguel Oliveira.

There was a regular trading of times at the top as the 20-minute session went on, reaching its climax at 9am. Viñales set the pace with 1’58.703, leading both Folger and Oliveira by just over one tenth of a second. Jack Miller (Caretta Technology – RTG) and Luis Salom (Red Bull KTM Ajo) completed the top three five.

Alex Rins was again the leading Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider in sixth place, ahead of Miller teammate‘s John McPhee and Ambrogio Racing pairing Danny Webb and Brad Binder, with Niklas Ajo rounding out the top ten for Avant Tecno. No rain fell during the session, but several dark clouds loom in the skies above Mugello.

Mahindra Racing’s Efren Vazquez, still suffering from the broken collarbone he sustained at Le Mans, has elected to withdraw from the Italian event as he recovers.

The Moto3™ Gran Premio d’Italia TIM begins at 11am local time (GMT +2).
