Bradl equals career-best fourth place

Bradl equals career-best fourth place

Following the opening four races of 2013 in which he had endured no less than three falls, Stefan Bradl was delighted to have equalled a career-best of fourth place in Italy.

The German matched his previous person best result, which coincidentally had come at Mugello 12 months ago. He now sits eight points behind GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista for eighth overall, as the Spaniard crashed out at Mugello.

“We can be happy with fourth place,” began Bradl, the only rider for LCR Honda MotoGP. “The race was tough for me; my start was not fantastic and then I needed some time to pass the Ducatis. I already had a gap to the guys in front of me, so I was fighting to manage the gap to Hayden and Dovizioso behind me.”

The 23-year-old was particularly pleased to have beaten Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso in a battle that raged until the very final corner of the race.

“The slipstream is not that important in MotoGP because the bikes are so powerful,” he added. “I thought he would attack me earlier - not only at the last corner - so I managed to close the door everywhere. He tried to overtake me but I could re-pass him. When I saw I was first into the last corner, I knew it was going to be my place.”

Bradl’s next task is the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya in Barcelona, where he finished eighth for the same LCR squad last year.
