Ducati Team to test at Mugello this week

Ducati Team to test at Mugello this week

Following its home Italian Grand Prix in which Andrea Dovizioso, Nicky Hayden and wildcard rider Michele Pirro finished in fifth, sixth and seventh positions, Ducati Team will run a three-day test at Mugello.

Wednesday will see test riders Pirro and Franco Battaini take to the track, whereas racers Hayden and Dovizioso will be in action on Thursday and Friday. The test will feature usage of both the current GP13 machine and the GP13 Lab bike, which was raced by Pirro at Mugello on Sunday as well as in the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.

“We will have a good test over the next few days here at Mugello to try new parts and I hope to find some more solutions,” Dovizioso explained to, also talking of his race on Sunday. “My condition with the neck (after a crash on Friday) was really good. It was a hard race but every race at Mugello is physically difficult.

“I’m really happy with mine and Nicky’s pace because I think we used the maximum potential of the bike – it was out maximum pace and we could keep it up all-race long. The gap (to the front) is quite big, but we knew that, and the battle at the end with Bradl was really nice. We overtook each other four times on the last lap, which was quite a nice battle; unfortunately I couldn’t try to overtake him at the last corner, but fifth position in these difficult conditions at Mugello is quite good for us.”

Hayden had overtaken his teammate in a strong move, but lost out again as a chatter issue began to take effect.

“With a few laps to go we were in a battle for fourth and fifth, but I had a problem with a lot of chatter on the last two laps,” explained the 2006 world champion. “It was a decent race, but I expected more here because last year I was a bit faster and a bit closer to the front, so I’m not as happy as I would have liked to be but during the race the bike was working pretty well and better than we had probably had all weekend.

“I was able to go back and forth with ‘Dovi’ a few times and had a chance at Bradl until we had the problem. It was nice to be in there with the mix. We’re testing here this week, so hopefully we can make some improvements.”

Ducati Team now sits joint third in the teams’ standings with Monster Yamaha Tech 3, both of which have 95 World Championship points to their name.
