Hayden equals top speed record in Barcelona

Nicky Hayden matched the MotoGP™ top speed record during Friday’s opening practice session at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Crossing the speed trap located towards the end of the start/finish straight, Hayden was clocked at 339.4km/h (210.8mph) which corresponded with the record set by Brazilian Alex Barros on a Repsol Honda Team bike in 2004.

Hayden went on to discuss Day 1 of the race weekend:

“Compared to some other races, today was not spectacular but not a disaster either. In the end, half a second from the front is probably the closest I’ve been in a couple of races, so that’s good. With another couple of tenths we would have been well inside the top five, so that is good, but the main problem is trying to get some tyre life; we have a big drop from the tyre and when that happens everything gets a bit worse, so that is where our main focus is.”

The 2006 MotoGP™ World Champion ended the opening day in seventh position, one position and as many tenths ahead of teammate Andrea Dovizioso.
