CEV Repsol: Pole positions filled at Albacete

The warm temperatures during the first practice sessions and the lack of wind helped Amato, Ramos, Forés and Mateos to each grab the front slot of the grid in Moto3™, Moto2™, Stock Extreme and Kawasaki Z Cup.

There was a stunning performance from the current runner-up of the CEV Repsol in the Moto3 category. Mahindra, the Indian manufacturer, has chosen Luca Amato (GER-Mahindra) and the CEV Repsol as a test bed, and with an excellent outcome: not only will the German rider start from the pole position, but he also smashed the best pole time ever at the Albacete circuit, previously held by Albert Arenas. Behind Amato came Adrián Martín (SPA-Kalex-KTM), finishing only a few thousandths ahead of Albert Arenas (SPA-FTR), who closes tomorrow’s front row thanks to his season’s best time of 1:34.236.

In Moto2™, Román Ramos (SPA-Ariane) is coming on strong and he snatched his first pole position of the season. Despite a comfortable margin in the overall standings, Ramos will have to fend off several dangerous rivals, among them Rivas (SPA-Kalex) and Syahrin (MAL-Kalex), who earned their valuable slots on the front row tomorrow after riding superbly to finish with bare fractions of a second between them. Alejandro Esteban (SPA-Kawasaki) was the best rider today in the Superstock 600 class.

Xavier Forés (SPA-Ducati) took pole position on the grid in Stock Extreme. With lap times very close to those of the leader, Iván Silva (SPA-BMW Motorrad) and Adrián Bonastre (SPA-Suzuki) finished in second and third positions. None of them managed to improve the times they put up in the first practice session, due to the track temperature increasing as the day wore on.

The day finished with the first of the two races of the Kawasaki Z Cup scheduled for this weekend. Mateos, Habib and Valera, who started from the front row of the grid, took podium positions as they did in the previous Z Cup race. Oliver Habib continues to lead the points table. Tomorrow, the riders of the Kawasaki Z Cup will have another chance to add to their points.
