Final lap ‘risk’ pays off for Aegerter

Dominique Aegerter was thrilled to have finished third in Saturday’s Moto2™ Iveco TT Assen. The result equalled the career-best of the Technomag carXpert rider, whose previous rostrum had come in Valencia at the end of 2011.

Aegerter rose from tenth place on the grid at Assen, courtesy of both a strong getaway and making the most of an opportunity which arose on the last lap.

"I’m really happy with my second podium," he smiled. "It was not such an easy race. I gave it my best, made a good start and was able to do a few laps in first position.

"In the middle of the race I lost a little bit of front grip and at the end, when ‘Tito’ (Esteve Rabat) and Zarco overtook me, I built up my confidence again and went for a risk on the last lap. I took my second podium and thank all of the team for a very good job. I’m very happy."

The 22-year-old is now hoping to maintain his momentum at the Sachsenring.

"I will try to do the same, for sure," Aegerter begins to sum up. "It’s not an easy track, but I have many Swiss fans there and also many German fans, so I will try to give them a good show and try to give my best as always."

After seven races in 2013, Aegerter completes the top five of the Moto2™ standings.
