Pace-setting Bradl expecting close weekend

Stefan Bradl was thrilled to lead the way in front of his home crowd as Friday signalled the start of action for his home race. The LCR Honda MotoGP rider, despite being encouraged, is now predicting a very tight remainder to proceedings.

Bradl topped the timesheets with his best effort of 1’22.030, edging out Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo by 17 thousandths of a second once the latter had suffered the accident which has put him out of action for the rest of the event.

"It feels great," Bradl told motogp.com during a video interview, having sealing the top spot in practice. "I am really pleased. The support from the home fans is so nice, but more importantly our setting is quite good and I felt good from my first lap this morning. We made a step forward and improved the setting further in the afternoon; I was able to do good lap times - not only one - and that is quite good for tomorrow."

Like Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa, Bradl also put the emphasis on tyres.

"We have tried all of the tyres we have but we’re still not decided which one we are going to use (for the race)," he continued. "Before qualifying, we will have to concentrate on the soft tomorrow morning to be able to do the best lap times possible. It’s really close, the top guys are so close. We will also have to see how the weather will be tomorrow and try to attack as well as possible."

So far this season, Bradl’s highest starting position is his career-best of third on the grid at Assen. He has finished the last three races in respective fourth, fifth and sixth positions.
