Torres on top in Free Practice 3

Torres on top in Free Practice 3

Jordi Torres hit the top of the timesheets by leading the third Moto2™ practice session at the Sachsenring, staged on Saturday morning. The Aspar Team Moto2 rider headed Tuenti HP 40’s Pol Espargaro and Marc VDS Racing Team’s Mika Kallio, while championship leader Scott Redding ended up in ninth position.

Moto2 closed a dramatic morning in Germany, with Torres posting a last-gasp lap of 1’24.634 while both he and Espargaro moved inside the previous fastest ever Moto2 lap of the Sachsenring. Behind Kallio, the top five was completed by Came Iodaracing Project’s Johann Zarco and Desguaces La Torre Maptaq’s Xavier Simeon. Redding dropped to ninth as he was not aiming for quick lap times.

Several riders hit trouble. Steven Odendaal (Argiñano & Gines Racing) fell after bouncing over the grass at Turn 9, while Tuenti HP 40’s Tito Rabat complained of left ankle pain following an accident at Turn 11; it was soon confirmed that the Spaniard had not broken any bones. Other fallers included Blusens Avintia’s Kyle Smith, Tech 3’s Louis Rossi and TargoBank Motorsport’s Alex Mariñelarena, who this weekend is making his second wildcard appearance of the season.

Moto2™ Qualifying commences at 3:05pm local time (GMT +2).
