Bautista: ‘We paid the price at the end’

Alvaro Bautista laments not being able to hold onto fourth place in Sunday’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, but was nonetheless pleased to have finished sixth.

For the majority of the race, the GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider was involved in a titanic battle over fourth place with Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Cal Crutchlow. Ultimately both would be pipped to the post by Yamaha Factory Racing’s Valentino Rossi, who stole fourth in the final complex of corners.

“I am really happy and I think we had a great race today,” said Bautista, who finished sixth from fifth on the grid. “Obviously I would have preferred to finish fourth but sixth and the way we got it is not a bad result. Unfortunately, I had to push the front harder than I would have liked in the first part of the race and we paid the price at the end, when I was unable to defend my position from Crutchlow.

“It's a shame but I am happy anyway, we have a fantastic feeling with the bike right now and we are doing a good job so I want to say a special thanks to the team and the guys at Showa, Nissin and of course at Honda. Now we can look to the future with even more confidence.”

Bautista’s sixth place was his fourth of the year so far, after the Grands Prix of Qatar, Spain and France. His best result to date is fourth at Laguna Seca three weeks ago.
