Zarco sets blistering pace at Silverstone

Johann Zarco set a new Moto2™ standard for Silverstone as he topped the third and final practice session on Saturday morning. The Came Iodaracing Project rider led championship leader and long-time pace-setter Scott Redding by just one thousandth of a second, with other title contender Pol Espargaro in eighth position.

With Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) having led the way for much of the session, Frenchman Zarco jump ahead by the narrowest of margins in the last knockings. In third was Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami, also within a tenth of the quickest time, while Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Tom Luthi and Tuenti HP 40’s Tito Rabat rounded out the top five. Rabat’s teammate Espargaro, currently second to Redding in the title race, improved from ninth to eighth position on his final lap but still ended proceedings three quarters of a second off the leading pace.

There were crashes for Aspar Team Moto2’s Jordi Torres and Gino Rea Montaze Broz Racing’s Gino Rea, but a strong finish for Tech3’s Danny Kent who made the top six. The session also featured a small battle between championship rivals Espargaro and Redding, with the latter having briefly followed the former before overtaking. Moto2™ Qualifying will start at 3:05pm local time (GMT +1).
