KTM celebrates Moto3™ Constructors’ title

KTM celebrates Moto3™ Constructors’ title

KTM has become the first marque to clinch a title in the 2013 World Championship, as its lead in the Constructors’ standings for the Moto3™ class is now unassailable.

After Silverstone and with six meetings remaining, KTM tops the standings with 275 points. In the Constructors’ Championships, the lead bike of each manufacturer scores points in each Grand Prix; this means that a maximum of 150 remain on offer, while KTM now leads the way by 155. This confirms that the Austrian company will collect the honours for the second year in succession.

KTM have now won the Constructors’ crown in the lightweight (Moto3/125) class for the third time, including their back-to-back success in Moto3. Adding to their impressive tally, it has won the first 11 races of the year and, looking back into 2012, the last 15 successive Moto3 races; this is the third-longest sequence of successive Grand Prix wins in the lightweight class for any single manufacturer, behind Honda who managed 19 victories across 1990 and 1991 plus 17 wins within 1992 and 1993.

Sealing their domination of the season so far, KTM-equipped riders have not only finished atop the podium in every race to date, but in second position as well. The battle for second in the championship is more closely-fought, as just 30 points cover Kalex KTM, Mahindra and FTR Honda in a triangular battle for the runner-up spot.
