CEV Repsol action continues at Albacete

CEV Repsol action continues at Albacete

After the summer break, the teams and riders of the three hotly-contested categories making up the CEV Repsol championship return to action at Albacete this weekend. With more than half of the season’s races still to run, we can look forward to a period of intense competition as riders fight for championship laurels.

Because of its newness and the many participating riders, as well as the marginal differences between the riders in the points table, Moto3™ looks to continue providing unpredictability and wide open possibilities on the track. Marcos Ramírez (SPA-KTM) currently leads the table, just three points ahead of Dutchman Bryan Schouten (NED-FTR) and ten ahead of his Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 teammate María Herrera (SPA-KTM). Their place at the top is the result of their consistency – of the three, only Herrera has taken a top spot so far.

The situation in Moto2™ is rather different, with big gaps in points between those at the top. Román Ramos (SPA-Ariane) will work hard this weekend to keep up his streak of podium finishes. But two-time winner this season and most dangerous opponent Alex Mariñelarena (SPA-Suter) won’t make it easy for him; in their last outing at the Albacete circuit Mariñelarena demonstrated winning skills. On the same points (36 behind the leader) Hafizh Syahrin (MAL-Kalex) and Russel Goméz (SPA-AJR) are in third and fourth place. Miquel Pons (SPA-Yamaha) in Spanish Superstock 600 Cup will defend his clear position as the strongest candidate for the title.

Xavier Forés (SPA-Ducati) will look to maintain his dominance of the Stock Extreme category at the throttle of his Ducati. Close adversaries Carmelo Morales (SPA-Kawasaki) and Iván Silva (SPA-BMW Motorrad) will need to concentrate, as there will be two races in Albacete this weekend in the category: 50 points are at stake. Fran Rodríguez (SPA-Kawasaki) heads the rankings so far in the Spanish Stock Extreme Cup.
