Rins raises the bar on Saturday morning

Alex Rins upped the Moto3™ pace as the final free practice session took place at Misano on Saturday morning. The Spaniard led the way from long-time pace-setter Jonas Folger and Maverick Viñales, who had topped the first session on Friday.

Registering another new best Moto3™ lap for Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Rins (Estrella Galicia 0,0) posted 1’42.917. This edged out Folger (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3) by two tenths of a second at the very end of the 40-minute period, while Viñales (Team Calvo) was just under another four tenths in arrears. The top five was completed by Caretta Technology – RTG’s Jack Miller and Rins’ teammate Alex Marquez, but there was trouble for Australian Miller who crashed at Turn 15 heading into the final minute.

Miller was in fact the second rider to go down at Turn 15, as Twelve Racing wildcard Luca Marini – half-brother to multiple title winner Valentino Rossi – had already done so. Team Calvo’s Ana Carrasco was another rider to hit trouble, whereas Niklas Ajo crashed at the start of the session; he escaped injury, as did Florian Alt whose Kiefer Racing bike collected the errant Avant Tecno machine of Ajo. Qualifying for the GP Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini, Round 12 of the Moto3™ World Championship, begins at 12:35pm local time (GMT +2).
