Warm-Up: Lorenzo quickest as Marquez crashes

Marc Marquez has failed to top a session for this first time this weekend, having crashed at the end of Warm-Up for the GP Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini. As the Repsol Honda Team rider and pole-sitter walked away, the top spot went to Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo.

Lorenzo topped the timesheets with 1’33.832, having won at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the past two years. Marquez was second from his teammate Dani Pedrosa, while Rossi’s colleague Valentino Rossi and GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista rounded out the top five.

Shortly after a crash for Avintia Blusens’ Hiroshi Aoyama, Marquez lost the front end on entry to Turn 10, Tramonto corner. As had been the case in final practice on Saturday, the 20-year-old newcomer and championship leader was able to walk away, but was left annoyed by the fact that another mistake had been committed. The Grand Prix will be underway from 2pm local time (GMT +2).
