JiR Moto2 rider Mike di Meglio is likely to miss the rest of the 2013 season, as the injuries he sustained at Brno at the end of August are more serious than first thought.
The French rider faces a long period of recuperation and physiotherapy and will most likely therefore be unavailable to ride at any of the remaining rounds of this year’s World Championship.
Di Meglio broke his pelvis in two places after a highside crash in the Czech Republic Moto2™ race in an incident which also involved Alberto Moncayo and Marcel Schrötter.
He initially appeared to have escaped serious injury but the rider from Toulouse was later discovered to have two fractures in his pelvis and was restricted to bed for almost a month.
The rider himself stated, “I have been waiting impatiently for the results of my latest scan, but the diagnosis is less positive than I had hoped. After a month of recovery I’m realising what a heavy crash it was and can now see how lucky I was not to have damaged nervous tissue. My doctor has told me not to return to racing yet, as it is too risky at this stage.”
